I. The Unremembering
Before the names, before the skin,
Before the world could call us in,
Two sparks were cast through veils of night,
Each carrying half a buried light.
No vow was spoken, no hand was sworn,
No mortal calendar marked the morn.
Yet somewhere beneath the causal sea,
A silent chord remembered me.
You walked your road, I walked mine,
Both drinking dust from separate wine.
The soul forgets what the mind cannot,
And hides its map in a secret knot.
For counterpart is not simply โotherโ,
Nor lover, nor stranger, nor sister nor brother.
It is the mirror the heavens conceal,
The wound-shaped door through which spirits heal.
II. The Recognition
Then time grows thin. A glance. A word.
A strange old silence suddenly heard.
The room remains, the bodies stay,
Yet something ancient looks your way.
There is no proof, no sacred sign,
Yet every nerve declares, this line
Was written somewhere before this hour,
Before the body, before the flower.
The intellect reaches for names and charts,
While recognition bypasses the heart.
A face becomes more than face can be,
A stranger arrives carrying memory.
Not โI have found what I was seeking.โ
More dangerous still: I know what is speaking.
For beneath attraction, beneath desire,
Two mirrors have caught the same hidden fire.
III. The Ignition
Now polarity wakes from stone,
And each awakens the other’s unknown.
The masculine rises, the feminine calls,
The temple remembers its unfinished walls.
Kundalini coils through the ancestral tree,
Old locks begin losing their mastery.
The serpent is not merely heat in the spine,
But consciousness crossing a boundary line.
You amplify me. I amplify you.
The buried becomes visible, painfully true.
What one suppresses, the other reveals,
What one has frozen, the other unseals.
Ecstasy enters with terror in tow,
For heaven has opened where shadows still grow.
The meeting seems destined, divine, complete,
Yet destiny rarely arrives looking sweet.
IV. The Projection
We crown one another with celestial names,
Mistaking our longing for heavenly flames.
โI am your answer.โ
โYou are my throne.โ
The psyche makes kingdoms from what it has known.
The anima ascends. The animus appears.
The beloved becomes the shape of our fears.
We pour onto flesh what the soul once adored,
Then kneel before images we ourselves formed.
The counterpart becomes oracle, god,
A doorway to everything sacred and odd.
But every projection eventually cracks,
For no human vessel can carry that vast.
The beloved says, โI am not your key.โ
And the soul whispers softly, โThen who am I to be?โ
V. The Separation
The bridge catches fire.
The lovers divide.
One turns toward silence.
One runs from the tide.
No villain is needed.
No curse must be cast.
Some unions must fracture
To loosen the past.
The cord is still singing though hands let it go,
And absence becomes the cruelest oracle known.
The mind counts the days, the heart counts the signs,
While ego builds prisons from invisible lines.
Yet separation is not always rejection.
Sometimes it is sacred disidentification.
The soul must discover, beneath grief and blame,
โWhat remains of me when you leave my frame?โ
VI. The Dark Night
Then comes the descent where the bright gods go blind,
Where every old answer abandons the mind.
The seeker enters the underworld alone,
Where the false self sits on an ancestral throne.
Here, no synchronicity rescues the soul,
No number, no omen, no vision makes whole.
The shadow brings ledgers of hunger and shame,
And asks, without mercy, โWho benefits from this game?โ
Old wounds become temples.
Old fears become guides.
The abandoned child rises
From where it still hides.
The counterpart fades from the centre of sight,
Because the deepest union is inward at night.
You descend past romance, past longing, past pain,
To find that the labyrinth lives in your name.
VII. The Albedo
After the darkness, the waters grow clear.
The ghosts lose their faces. The fog disappears.
The soul, having shattered its idol and chain,
Discovers that solitude need not mean pain.
This is the whitening, the moonlit rebirth,
Where spirit remembers its unborrowed worth.
No counterpart is needed to certify light.
No absence can make the interior night.
The feminine gathers the pieces with grace.
The masculine learns how to soften his face.
Within one vessel, the opposites meet,
And inner division dissolves at the feet.
The beloved is still loved, but no longer adored
As something external, omnipotent, lord.
Projection withdraws like the tide from the shore,
And love becomes larger because it needs less more.
VIII. The Sovereignty
Now each walks alone without walking apart,
With kingdom restored to the centre of heart.
No chasing. No proving. No bargaining plea.
The soul stops asking, โWill you choose me?โ
The counterpart is no longer a prize,
Nor proof that the universe favours our eyes.
Each claims their shadow, their body, their flame,
Their lineage, their longing, their pleasure, their name.
This is the marriage of self with the soul,
The inward hieros gamos making one whole.
The throne is not taken. The throne is restored.
The beggar awakens and finds he is lord.
And strangely, the less that the seeker demands,
The more sacred the meeting becomes in the lands
Where love isn’t possession, nor distance defeat,
But two sovereign fires allowed to meet.
IX. The Return
Then perhaps, when neither is calling the other,
The path folds inward, then opens another.
A message. A meeting. A door left ajar.
Not lightning descending from some distant star.
No grand proclamation. No heavenly choir.
Just recognition without the old fire.
The eyes still remember. The bodies still know.
But now there is space where compulsion would grow.
The counterpart returns not to finish your soul,
But to witness the person who made themselves whole.
The old gravitational hunger is gone,
And love can stand upright beneath the dawn.
What once was a wound becomes now a wise scar,
A map of how deeply two souls once were.
No chains are required where consciousness sees
That union is freedom, or else it deceives.
X. The Coniunctio
Here alchemy speaks in its oldest tongue:
The king and the queen are once again young.
Sol meets Luna beneath the same dome,
And the foreign becomes the familiar home.
Not masculine conquering feminine ground,
Nor feminine binding the masculine down.
But opposites held in a paradoxical sphere,
Where difference is sacred because both are here.
The marriage is inward, yet outwardly shown,
Two complete flames refusing a throne.
Neither consumes the other to prove they are one,
For union without difference leaves nowhere to run.
The vessel becomes a temple of two,
Where โIโ does not vanish because โweโ comes through.
The sacred conjunction is not fusion or flight,
But two sovereign beings sharing one light.
XI. The Death of the Old Contract
Yet even reunion must eventually die,
For every attachment that claims to be โIโ
Must enter the fire where the false forms decay,
Or love becomes another beautiful cage.
The fantasy dies. The prophecy too.
The version of โusโ that once seemed so true.
No script survives unchanged under the sun.
The soul must release what the soul once begun.
You are not my saviour.
I am not your cure.
No cosmic contract makes suffering pure.
We meet because meeting reveals what is real,
Not because heaven commands us to heal.
And what survives death is the essence, not form:
A love that can shelter, but cannot conform.
XII. The Sacred Service
At last, what was private becomes something wide.
The river that joined us now nourishes outside.
The love that once circled two names in a room
Becomes medicine offered wherever there is gloom.
For counterpart work, if truly made whole,
Cannot terminate at the edge of the soul.
Its purpose is not endless romantic trance,
But consciousness entering ordinary circumstance.
The mystic learns dishes.
The mystic pays rent.
The mystic grows gardens and keeps promises meant.
For heaven is tested in mundane little things:
In patience, in labour, in what compassion brings.
The sacred becomes practical, embodied, alive.
The temple leaves heaven and learns how to thrive.
XIII. The Return to the One
And finally, beyond counterpart, beyond name,
Beyond masculine, feminine, lover, and flame,
The two who once sought themselves in each other’s eyes
Discover the ocean beneath all divides.
The โotherโ was never the end of the road.
It carried a lantern beneath its own load.
It showed what was hidden, then vanished from view,
So the seeker could find what was always in you.
The circle completes, though completion is strange:
Not ending the journey, but changing its range.
The two become two, and the One remains One,
Like moonlight and moon, like the sea and the sun.
No possession. No promise. No desperate plea.
Just Being beholding itself endlessly.
And if the beloved remains, they remain by their will.
If distance arrives, the inner flame stills
Not into extinction, but luminous peace,
Where longing becomes love, and grasping finds release.
For the deepest counterpart, hidden beneath every face,
Was never another who could fill your empty space.
It was the ancient intelligence, veiled from the start,
That led you through another
Back into your heart.
