The first time that I saw you, the whole world lost its pace,
A second stretched forever when my eyes fell on your face.
I remember every colour, every shadow, every light,
And how one stolen glance could make a stranger feel like right.
Then came the little battles, every word a thin disguise,
We’d argue just to linger in the corners of each other’s eyes.
But neither dared to hold the gaze, too frightened to be seen,
So yours would find me once, then mine would flee the scene.
And then you let me love you, and your eyes became my home,
We’d lock them without speaking, as if neither could let go.
There was hunger in the silence, something wild beneath the skin,
A predator, a prey, two hearts that knew they’d both give in.
Then somehow love went quiet, and we learned to look away,
Or steal a glance in secret, then pretend it meant no weight.
My eyes would search for yours, but fate would turn the timing wrong,
Two people wanting contact, with nowhere they could belong.
And now the years have softened what they could not make untrue,
Sometimes our eyes still meet, and I swear they remember you.
There’s sadness in the staying, and a question in the blue,
For some loves end without ending, they just learn to look right through.
